Tear Resistance Tester

The Tear Resistance Tester is a high-precision pendulum-based instrument designed to measure the force required to propagate a tear through materials like paper, board, textiles, and rubber. Operating on the Elmendorf principle, it determines the material's ability to resist the growth of a cut when subjected to tension. This tester is indispensable for manufacturers ensuring that their products don't fail under stress, providing direct energy absorption data to calculate the Tear Factor and Tear Index according to global standards.

Product Overview

The Vertex Tear Resistance Tester is engineered for industries where material durability is non-negotiable. Whether it is hard rubber or thin paper, hardness alone doesn't guarantee quality—tear strength does. Our equipment features a precision-calibrated pendulum and an ultra-low friction pointer to capture even the slightest resistance forces (gF) accurately.

The test involves making a pre-cut on the specimen using the integrated hardened alloy steel incision knife. When the pendulum is released, it tears the specimen, and the energy lost is recorded on a multi-scale dial. This data is critical for predicting how materials will perform against abrasion and sudden tension during handling and use.

Advanced Features

Hardened Incision Knife

Equipped with an incision knife made of hardened and ground alloy steel. It ensures a precise, consistent pre-cut every time, which is vital for repeatable tear resistance results.

Precision Aluminum Clamps

Features lightweight, controlled-jaw clamps made of high-grade aluminum. These provide a slip-free grip on the specimen without damaging the material before the test begins.

Low-Friction Pointer

Designed with an extra-light, low-friction pointer with a textile material lining. This ensures that the pendulum's energy is used for tearing the material, not overcoming pointer resistance.

Multi-Scale Versatility

Offers three distinct scales (A, B, and C) allowing for testing of a wide range of materials by simply adjusting the number of specimen sheets, making it a truly versatile lab tool.
